An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a federally licensed tax practitioner with unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS in all 50 states. The credential is issued by the US Department of the Treasury and earned through a three-part Treasury examination — not a state license. For tax representation, audit defense, and complex planning, the EA designation is the credential the IRS itself recognizes.
